All types of advanced neuro-surgical treatment of the brain and the spine are offered by our neurology/neurosurgery specialist team.

Brain diseases, such as hydrocephalus and brain tumours that are treated surgically can have a superb outcome. Complicated spinal conditions such as caudal cervical spondylomyelopathy (Wobblers Syndrome), fracture repair, subarachnoid cyst or tumour resection are treated commonly and effectively at the Pride Veterinary Referrals. Our specialist assessment provides information and discussion on the best assessment for the patient.

Our highly qualified team uses state-of-the-art medical and surgical procedures for the treatment of patients with neurological disorders.

Why Refer To Our Neurology & Neurosurgery Service?

Neurological conditions can be confusing in their presentation and yet diagnosing the underlying cause as accurately as possible is the foundation of best care and management.

Such care begins with a neurology consultation including a complete neurological examination performed by our experienced veterinary neurologists. This is then followed by an extensive discussion about possible diagnoses, appropriate investigations, and treatment options. Many patients proceed to further diagnostic tests followed by appropriate treatment.

Post-operative rehabilitation is particularly important in our spinal patients and is provided by our on-site highly qualified rehabilitation team.

All of our patients enjoy the compassionate care provided by members of the neurology team who work closely together with other specialist services to provide the highest quality of care.

Neurology & Neurosurgery Service & Procedures

Surgical management of spinal cord disorders requires expertise. Our neurology and neurosurgery service selects the optimal surgical treatment for the highest benefit of patients.

  • Common spinal surgeries include:
  • Hemilaminectomy
  • Ventral slot decompression
  • Corpectomy
  • Foraminotomy
  • Dorsal laminectomy

Additional advanced spinal surgeries are performed as necessary such as:

  • Cervical spondylomyelopathy stabilisation (“Wobblers syndrome”)
  • Fracture repair
  • Spinal malformation reconstruction
  • Subarachnoid cyst or tumour resection.

Brain diseases commonly benefit from medical management and suitable treatment options are tailor-made to the needs of patients. Surgical management may be the preferred treatment option insome cases. Many patients have benefitted from brain tumour resection or ventriculo-peritoneal shunt placement as treatment for hydrocephalus.

Our patients benefit from the 24/7 availability of the on-site MRI and CT to investigate brain and spinal cord disorders. Sophisticated electrodiagnostic equipment is used to evaluate peripheral nerves and muscles in cases of neuromuscular conditions.
